WHAT DO STUDENTS SAY?
John is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology and is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah. His clinical and research interests include pancreatitis and cystic fibrosis. He has had a long interest in the intersection of science and faith and has written prior articles for BioLogos and God and Nature Magazine. However, John always has wanted further theological training in this area and completed a DThM degree under Dr. Thomas J. Oord in the Center for Open and Relational Theology as part of Northwind Theological Seminary. His dissertation titled “A Theology of the Microbiome” has been completed and is being considered for publication. John plans to use his theology degree to continue academic theological writing while also continuing outreach to emphasize the importance of understanding science in the church setting.
Northwind offers a new style of online learning: Guided Education
When most people think of seminary courses, they envision a professor standing at the front of a classroom, giving lectures and facilitating discussions. While this can be an effective method of teaching, it is not the only way. At Northwind Theological Seminary, courses are designed to be taken by individual students anywhere with wifi, at their own pace, on any device they choose.
Northwind's teaching philosophy is called Guided Education, which is based on Competency-Based Theological Education. Faculty mentors vet resources, organize learning, and guide students through Video-Lecture Courses, Tutorial Courses, and Oxford-Style Courses, allowing students to learn in a way that works best for them.
